Safer Internet Day Awareness in progress

BbP and Niunet took part in the NBC Dabai talk show panel on 22nd February 2021. The event was part of the SID online safety awareness campaign. Discussions were regarding online safety and ways for how educators, parents, guardians and children can best safely and confidently use internet without risks.

BbP IT and Digital Learning Officer, Philip Luke and BbP Programs Manger Sandy Kauk expressed the importance and the need for awareness activities in classrooms and more parental/guardian control over minors especially children and their access to the internet.

BbP is already practicing online safety by providing our own materials and by collaborating with Niunet to install Niunet Boxes at each BbP Library Learning Centre in PNG. The Niunet box is a pre-installed storage device that will contain educational resources that are vetted and monitored to the needs of young children at the age of five (5) years. BbP is also making sure teacher librarians are receiving training on how to use handheld devices such as tablets and smart phones, to be more equipped and confident as digital users within a learning environment.
